‘Leather Works’ Talk & Workshop
FREE HERITAGE LOTTERY FUNDED WORKSHOP @ THE SPRING
Thursday 29 April, 7-9pm & Saturday 1 May, 10.30-3pm
Free event. Join our FREE workshop & learn about the history of Havant’s leather making industry. Leather gloves and other items were manufactured up until the 1930’s. In The Spring’s new museum, you will see some of the machinery used by glove makers and other past leather craft workers. The 2 days consist of an introductory evening on Thursday with talks from an expert in the field. Handle some samples and learn all about how the leather and parchment was made years ago. On the Saturday we invite more people to join in and get hands on. Work with textile artist Mary Vormawah and make a small leather object of your own design inspired by the local heritage. Participants are welcome to attend just one part of the event, or both. There is no need to book for either event, just turn up. The talk will start at about 7.15 and we will be welcoming people all day on the Saturday… Come along, have a go and learn something new!

Making Space Website Course
Making Space, in conjunction with studio tenants, Compulsive Productions, recently ran a 5-week ‘Build your own website course’ with some local artists & makers. The course is designed to assist you in creating a website from scratch using a system which allows you to control and update your website content as you wish without the need to pay anyone else to do it.
Below are the links to some of the websites/blogs created during the 10-hour course. If you would be interested in attending this course we are looking to run it again later in the year, in September/October 2010, please email outreach@makingspace.org if this is something you might be interested in.
