Open Access Jewellery & Glass
A fantastic opportunity to come and get on with your own work, network & further your skills…
Open Access is about enabling people with some experience to make self-directed work. Practice your skills including those learnt on previous Making Space courses with an experienced brain on hand in both jewellery and glass. You will need to bring your own materials but the cost of each day covers the use of our equipment.
The cost is £25 per Saturday for which the space will be available 10am-3pm. Alternatively book 3 sessions for £60. Individual kiln firings are extra (£10 per firing)

Advanced Jewellery

An ongoing advanced course for participants who have a reasonble level of experience. Individual student projects will be catered for on a one to one basis.

Fused Glass

A great follow on for those who attended the 5-week beginners course or people who have some experience with glass. Further your work and create more intricate and interesting pieces as well as trying some other new techniques. Most materials will be included in the cost, however if you want extra/specialised glass you will be able to purchase some from the tutor.

Around The World Textiles

with Karen Berry
A trip around the world in patchwork, quilting and applique. 5 weeks, each session looking at a technique from a different part of the world. Learn English, Native American, Hawaiian, Japanese and Italian techniques, making samples of each to turn into accessories and soft furnishings of your choice. Some experience needed, participants need to bring along their own sewing machine.
Tuesday days 10am-2pm. £150 including most materials
Design your Own Website

with Paul Gonella – Compulsive Productions
This is a fantastic opportunity for artists, makers and creative people wanting a presence on the internet to publisise their work/what they do. Over the 5-week course you will learn all you need to get your own customised blog-based website up and running. You will be introduced to a free, online toolkit allowing for creation, personalisation and continued maintenance of your website with images, text, slideshows, etc. Individual needs will be catered for and the course will cover things such as Flikr, Twitter, video and online stores and also provide guidance on further expansion and development. Participants must bring with them a laptop with wi-fi, an email account and a PayPal account (if an online store is required)

Raku Fired Ceramics

By the end of this workshop you will have created some amazing raku fired ceramic pieces. On the first session you will learn about this ancient technique and make a selection of test pieces. You will then be asked to come in on Saturday 18th September, during our Open Access day and glaze your pieces ready for firing. In the final session you will have a go at the exciting raku firing process which involves removing the glazed pieces from a kiln at 1000 degrees before smothering them in a sawdust tank to create the amazing metallic and crackled glaze. A must for any ceramic lovers. Not suitable to asthmatics as the firing process is very smoky.

Crochet For Beginners

with Claire Vine
This fantastic course is ideal for complete beginners or those with a little knowlwdge on crochet! Over the 2 evenings you will be taught the fascinating technique of crochet and start working on small samples. Expert in the field, Claire Vine will be on hand to assist you with any questions or issues that arise. In the time between the workshops you will be encouraged to practice what you have learnt and complete some more samples. The second session will begin with reviewing what you have learnt and showing your samples before a second method is taught. You will be learning how to crochet on the round and will also learn how to transform what you have made into blankets, shawls and cushions etc.
