Open Access Jewellery & Glass

A fantastic opportunity to come and get on with your own work, network & further your skills…

Open Access is about enabling people with some experience to make self-directed work. Practice your skills including those learnt on previous Making Space courses with an experienced brain on hand in both jewellery and glass. You will need to bring your own materials but the cost of each day covers the use of our equipment.

The cost is £30 per Saturday for which the space will be available 10am-3pm. Alternatively book 3 sessions for £81. (to be used within a 5 month period) Individual kiln firings are extra (£10 per firing)

10 Week Jewellery Courses

Intermediate & Advanced – For participants who have a reasonable level of experience and can work on their own self-lead projects for the majority of the course. There will be some group tuition but individual student projects will be catered for on a one to one basis. Cost of course excludes materials, although some materials may be available to be purchased through the tutors.

Beginners Jewellery

with Sharon Justice

The perfect 10 week introductory course for anyone with little or no experience in Silver jewellery Making. Learn all the basics including measuring, cutting, sawing, soldering & finishing before experimenting with wirework. You will make over the 10 weeks a simple ring and create a pendant or earrings of your own design. Although the cost of the course doesn’t include materials, starter packs will be available to purchase from Sharon at the beginning of the course.

10-Week Ceramic Course

The Exploration of the Teapot

with Pete Levy

A great course for anyone interested in ceramics or those wanting to try something different. The course will begin with an initial introduction to clay and some consideration of the philosophy & history of tea & it’s drinking. You will be encouraged to make an individual approach; putting aside stereotypes and developing your own take on the teapot, which balances contemporary design with form and function. Throwing, slab building, carving and casting techniques will be covered. Finished, fully fired work will be exhibited at Making Space during the Arts Trail in May.

6-9pm – £150 including materials

Fused Glass 5-Week Courses

with Kate O’Connell

Be inspired and explore coloured glass over 5 weeks in this highly popular workshop. Decorative fused glass is an addictive process where you melt together separate pieces of glass to form one solid and unique piece. Final pieces can be coasters, small bowls, sun catchers or jewellery. The first course would be ideal for those having never tried the process before and covering all the basics. The second of the 2 courses is perfect for those with some experience and will cover some more advanced techniques. Price includes basic materials; higher costing glass and larger quantities can be purchased from the tutor.
