Meet our 2024 makers
Sarah L Hamilton jewellery
Sarah L Hamilton jewellery was created in September 2022. I have always loved colour, simplicity and clarity so I began designing geometric, sterling silver shapes filled with shimmering, coloured resin. I wanted the freedom to design and make pieces that were elegant, striking and easy to wear. Due to my techniques, each piece is original and unique. My current collections include earrings, necklaces, brooches and rings.
alice crowe
Alice Crowe is a potter based in Southsea, Hampshire. She works from a garden studio creating small batches of pottery and running wheel throwing workshops from her studio and raku firing workshops in local woodland.
Alice’s ceramics are made in the hope that they will used in people’s homes everyday. From an upbringing rooted in the rituals around cooking and eating together, she believes that the food we eat and the vessels we eat from deepen a connection and consideration into how things are made and where they come from.

I have a passion, since childhood, for making. Wherever possible I work with reclaimed, recycled and
repurposed materials. Using slate, timber, glass and crockery to make mosaics and discarded textiles to make
bags and Christmas decorations.

samantha english
Our memories are scattered and frayed at the edges, they are at the mercy of our emotions and desires and carry the complexity and weight of our own narratives. Exploration can be laboured, fractured and fragile. It brings forth glimpses of a past eroded by time and emotion. As she makes marks on each piece, she seeks to capture a fragment, a sensation or feeling of a memory whilst exploring the dark and the light spaces. Through the treatment of metal, she explores and captures the fragility, decay and the preciousness of those memories. Working in the vessel form and the narrative of landscape, she gives the viewer a place to hold their own memories, for contemplation, storage, or exploration.Samantha’s exploration of memory originated as she experienced a reminiscence bump, a tendency in older adults to have an increased recollection of memories from childhood and adolescence. Samantha sought to explore the reliability, the truth, and the fragmentation of her memories.
jane neville
My work is based on linear and curvilinear patterns. repeat patterns and simple shapes and ideas, using detail and decoration in an experimental and unique way. The ceramic ideas are produced in an intuitive way whilst working in the craft studio at Making Space, as well as stemming from ideas sketched in a sketchbook. With this combination my ideas develop. I am interested in imperfection within the idea of Wabi Sabi.
jim clabon woodcraft
Jim works from his woodland workshop creating unique and beautiful hand crafted wooden objects - working with local wind fallen trees using a variety of traditional tools and techniques. The bowls and the other forms you’ll find here are all turned on a foot powered pole lathe or carved by hand. Jim says that it's a rare thing to hold an item that you know the origins of so well - he made the pole lathe, the tools he uses and knows the tree each piece came from.
