monthly masterclass
New for 2025 we will be launching Monthly Masterclasses which will take place on a Saturday or Sunday throughout the year. We will be inviting guest tutors to deliver sessions that are a little different from our main craft courses.
july - KIntsugi |
Kintsugi with Richard Walker | Kintsugi (golden joinery) started in Japan around 500 years ago. When a clay, porcelain or glass item was broken, instead of hiding any repairs, the art (and idea) of Kintsugi is to celebrate the damage as part of the life journey and history of a piece.
Using contemporary materials, this Kintsugi class is a chance to explore the potential of this craft with your own items. Whether you have cracked, broken or smashed vessels that need repairing, or wish to break something anew within the class in order to repair it, any cracks, gaps or chips can be repaired using pure gold-leaf to turn those imperfections into something beautiful. As well as kintsugi, we will also have a brief look at the art of glass gilding, using pure silver. This will be a demonstration, with the option of having a go on the piece yourself! Saturday 5 July | 10-3pm | £95 Most materials included and lunch provided. Please let us know if you have any dietary requirements when booking. If you'd like to buy more materials there may be opportunities to buy from the tutors |
