Pots of Potential - Support Our Community Kilns This Summer at Making Space
This summer, we’re raising funds to help maintain our community kilns – an essential part of life at Making Space. These kilns are used by a wide range of people. From professional makers to the Home Ed community, our kilns fire pots made by school groups, and community organisations across the county. They enable us to offer workshops that make a huge impact, from our in-house Reach Out sessions for SEN young people which provide activities for those who can't access mainstream provision, whilst providing respite opportunities for their cares.
In the course of a month, our kilns fire work made by the most at need in our community, with those living in women's refuges, care home and hospices and refugees exploring ceramics for the first time. Work comes from across the county and beyond - with pots arriving from winchester, Basingstoke and as a far as the Isle of Wight.
To support this effort, we’re running a summer fundraiser to raise money to maintain and service our kilns. Our campaign will launch at Hampshire Open Studios and include ceramic workshops and a silent auction featuring donated pieces from local makers. It’s a chance to get involved, try something creative, and support a resource that helps keep our creative community thriving.
We’d love for you to be part of it.
If you are a ceramicist we need your help
Dig through your studios and cupboards for those perfectly imperfect pieces: the wonky pots, the seconds, the glaze experiments, or even those forgotten gems that have been sitting on the shelf for too long. We’d love to receive them as donations for the silent auction.
All proceeds from the auction will go directly toward the upkeep of our community kilns, helping to
keep them firing and accessible for everyone.
